Stemming from different musical horizons, the three musicians have in common their love for jazz music and for brilliant melodies as well as a vivid, yet delicate way of playing. Their program consists of famous jazz standards and bossa nova songs.

Born in 1982 in Vienna, Helia Samadzadeh starts taking singing lessons with her father Habib Samadzadeh at the age of 10. At the same time she joins the West Austrian Musical Company (WAMCO) and has her musical stage debut first as a child and afterwards in various major roles, such as Maria in “West Side Story”.

In September 2007 Helia moved to Paris where she regularly gives concerts both as a leggiero soprano and jazz singer. Since 2010 she has been collaborating with the artist Susanna Fritscher as a vocalist for her sound installations.

Helia continues to refine her vocal technique with Anna Ringart, former Director of the Atelier Lyrique of the Paris Opera.

Smail Benhouhou starts playing the piano at an early age and later studies piano and harmonics at the École Nationale de Musique Vincent d’Indy in Issy les Moulineaux near Paris and eventually graduates with distinction from the Musikhochschule of Cologne.

He participates in numerous world music projects alongside Djamel Laroussi, Amazigh Kateb, Houria Aichi, Souad Asla and with the Orchestre National de Barbès.

Being also a composer, Smail writes orchestrations for the Orchestre Pasdeloup, Orchestre Symphonique Algérie-France and the Orchestre Divertimento.

His quartet not only plays his own compositions but also traditional North African music (Gnawa, Châabi) rearranged by him and letting space for improvisation.

Following his jazz formation as a bassist at the Anton Bruckner University of Linz and subsequently at the Centre des Musiques de Didier Lockwood, Martin Berauer discovers his love for world music collaborating with Akli D, Bholoja, Kareyce Fotso, Malik Belili, Souad Asla and Özlem Bulut.
He plays both the electric and double bass in various groups and ensembles, such as the Smail Ben Quartet, the Wolfgang Sambs Trio, Yoga Logic, Velemseni and in the Grand Orchestre Jean-Jacques Justafré.
